Bust said of
Sigilgaida Rufolo
Marble, XIII century (1272)
Nicola di Bartolomeno da Foggia
This bust has always been
considered a portrait for its realistic tones. It was identified like
Sigilgaida Rufolo, Nicola's wifer, doner of the Cathedral pulpit. Recently
it has been considered as a symbolic interpretation of the Ecclesia. As
far as the paternity of work is concerned the recent bibliography agrees
to attribute it to Nicola di Bartolomeo da Foggia, who signes and dates to
1272 the pulpit of the same Cathedral, from where the head has been
removed . |
