The Amalfi coast is stunning and the hillside town
of Ravello has the best views on
the coastline. It is said Ravello is situated ‘halfway
between the sky and the sea’ and it is certainly
one of the most beautiful places in the world.
Some 365 metres above sea-level, the medieval town
is made up of narrow alleys with steep steps, it
has a beautiful piazza and cathedral built in
1087. Ravello inspired many famous composers
including Richard Wagner, Edvard Grieg, Bernstein
Toscanini, – artists such as Escher, Mirò –
writers such as Ruskin, Boccaccio, D H Lawrence. |
